Amboseli National park is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Kenya. It lies North West of Mt. Kilimanjaro and South –East of Nairobi near the Tanzanian border. The park covers an area of 392km.
The best time of viewing the animals is during the dry season that is January to March, July through October are warm and dry as well which makes it perfect for game viewing.
WHAT TO SEE.
The major attractions in the Amboseli are large herd of elephants. the rarely seen black rhino, an opportunity of seeing wide range of wildlife.E.g Buffalo, Cheetah ,Gazelle,Hyena,Zebra,Monkeys,Wildbeest.
Also roaming on the grasslands are birds like bee-eaters, kingfishers, pelican, eagles.
Amboseli National park is also home to the Maasai people, they are indigenous group of semi-nomadic people located in Kenya and Northern Tanzania. Their distinctive dressing and semi- nomadic lifestyle have attracted tourism.
HOW TO GET THERE
ROAD
Amboseli is about 220km from Nairobi via Namanga on the Nairobi- Arusha Road. The road is fairly good but from Namanga to the park is a bit rough about (75km) the access is mainly through Meshanani Gate.
AIR PACKAGES
The park has an air strip at Empusel gate. Air Kenya offers daily flight packages to the park.
