MARSABIT

It lies between the National park to the South and a National reserve to the North.
It lies South East of the Chalbi desert in a forested area known for its volcanoes and crater lakes.
The Marsabit National park and reserve covers an area of 1500km2 and consist of a forested mountain.
The reserve has three crater lakes that provide habitat for a variety of birdlife. One of the lakes, Lake Paradise is famous and scenic from early films and writings of Martin Johnson and Vivien de Watville.
The town’s inhabitant is the Borana, Samburu, Rendile, Burji, Turkana and Gabra.
Cattle are the main source of income in these communities.
They trade goods and pay debts using the cattle.

WHAT TO SEE
Elephants, diverse cultures, greater kudus, antelope as well as lion and leopard, variety of bird species, scenic landscape and wilderness.

HOW TO GET THERE
Road
From Nairobi the reserve is reached via Nanyuki and Isiolo a distance of 620km.The road is tarmac up to Isiolo leaving a distance of 270km of very bad road.

AIRSTRIP
Its 21/2 hrs by air from Nairobi, the airstrip is located about 1km from Marsabit town centre
ACTIVITIES: Bird watching safaris, camel safaris to other plains nearby, Game viewing.
