Tsavo National Park Information/Safaris/Accomodation/Hotels & Lodges
Being the largest park in Kenya, Tsavo National park covers an area 20812km.It was established in April 1948 and later divided into East and west for easier administration. The parks are divided by Nairobi – Mombassa railway/road. Its located n Voi in Taita District in the Coast Province.
Tsavo East is slightly larger; it’s flat with dry plains.
WHAT TO SEE
Apart from wildlife there are other features to view such as the:
- The yatta plateau one of the world’s longest lava flows.
- Lugard falls- visitors can take a walk to the river to view the series of rapids. As the fall is a series of rapids.
- Mudanda rock-It’s a very huge rock about 1.6km.There is a dam below which attracts many animals and visitors can walk around the rock while viewing the wildlife as they take the water from the dam.
- Aruba Dam-Nice place to view animals as well as birds.
- Wildlife –Plenty of animals to see such as cheetah, elephant, stripped, hyena, lion, leopard and many more.
- Over 300 species of birds have been observed in the park.E.g ostriches, hornbills, weaverbirds, king fishers, buzzards.
HOW TO GET THERE
ROAD
The park can be accessed through three gates that is from Voi through the Manyani gate, from Mombassa through the Buchuma gate and Malindi through the Sala gate.
AIRSTRIPS
There are six airstrips in the South and thirteen in the Northern part. Chartered planes can be used to the park.
